Bound within this vessel is Vau’Reth, an infernal entity whose origins trace back to the Levantine demonology traditions of the early 5th century a time when spoken words were carved into stone and possession was a feared, documented phenomenon. Records describe this class of entity as a whispering parasite, capable of slipping between realms by anchoring itself to objects tied to human suffering.
Vau’Reth’s energy is unmistakably oppressive. Its presence announces itself through a low frequency vibration, sensed rather than heard, that settles deep in the sternum like an impending cry. Animals become immediately alert or violently avoidant; shadows thicken at the edges of lamplight, bending slightly toward the vessel as though gravity itself has warped around the entity.
Unlike residual hauntings or tethered human spirits, Vau’Reth displays intelligent, predatory behavior. It watches. It tests. It mimics. Initial activity typically begins with faint scratching slow, deliberate movements from within the object as though something inside is trying to carve its way out. Its last host, according to fragmented monastery records and oral accounts, was a young man from the late 19th century, whose unexplained violent contortions, sudden changes in voice, and long periods of vacant stillness became infamous in his rural parish. Local accounts describe furniture buckling inward, walls trembling as if breathing, and the man speaking in multiple tones at once, one shrill, one impossibly deep, and one not recognizably human.
The exorcism that followed is believed to have lasted nearly 27 hours, with multiple clergy rotating in and out due to exhaustion and overwhelming dread.
